I think that if the VAG routes don't work, a competent locksmith ought 
to be able to make you a (pair of) key(s) based on a cylinder removed 
from a door handle.

If the car is all locked up, they're not that hard to break into.  Um, I 
mean, that same locksmith will be able to "slim jim" your door in 
seconds if necessary.
