Hit the nail on the head.

Turns out I was thrown for a loop by the fact that the switch was replaced on June 7th. I knew that it sounded like a bad switch, but since it was "new" I was determined to find something else wrong. As it turned out it was indeed the switch. When the relay arrived and didn't fix the problem I immediately went after the switch. Had to pull the gauge pod out since there is zero access from the under side, and I found that we had another new OEM switch in stock, so I pulled the plug off the switch in the car and plugged it into the new one and manually operated it which resulted in the car firing right up. Turns out the bad switch was an off brand and the tolerances weren't quite right. It wasn't being turned quite far enough to hit the final contact fully, which is why only partial current was availible. OEM switch went in and it works fine now.

Moral of the story: If it seems like somethings wrong even though you "just did that" it probably went south again (maybe for a different reason)!
