This may or may not be useful, but as I recall from the old days, Phil 
Payne explained that the oil pumping hole gets slowly rotated by the off 
cetner action of the cam lobes, causing it to get "pumped up" only when 
it lines up with the oiler in the head.  Maybe one or more lifter is not 
getting to that point properly?

Not for the last few decades... modern engines are built to much closer 
tolerances and do not need to "break in," or have their parts wear into 
each other.

Just run a wide variety or revs, but not full power, for a bit, then 
change out the oil (don't waste synthetic on this stage).

The parts should fit just right from the get-go.

Obviously, if I am at all in error here, someone please jump in and 
correct me.
