It sounds like someone bypassed a problem FPR/wiring with a jumper wire
from an "ignition on" circuit - and it either died, or blew its fuse (if
they bothered to fuse it).
To fix it right could be tough, you'll have to go back to the FPR and
see where its problems lie.
Or, you could find the "new" wiring and do a better job of it.
By bypassing the FPR, of course, one loses the safety feature where the
FP turns off if there is no spark signal.
