In reality an r134a conversion IS cost effective as far as freon is
concerned, but don't expect the A/C to work nearly as well. In a R134A
system the coils on the condener are closer together and theres more of
them. Without changing the condenser the heat isn't expelled from the freon
enough, and as a result your A/C will not function nearly as well. I
personally like to stick to R12, or if you really want 134 then you should
try to find a vehicle with a 134 style condensor that can be adapted into
your car. Maybe since your in Canada this isn't as much of an issue, but it
is for me!
