HVAC question about 1995 A6

The fitting under the low side pressure switch is not
compatible to the AC fittings on R134a hoses.
Based on the factory manual when (1993 ?) Audi went to
R134a they added a Low side service port at the
compressor. My 1996 A6 has this low side service port
on the compressor. Access to the port sucks! The
compressor is mounted low in the driver side of the
engine and above the oil cooler/filter. I could not
reach down from above and from below the HOT oil
filter and oil cooler were in the way. I was able to
unsnap the silver cloth heat shield/wrap and get the
cap off the service valve. There is not much room
around the fitting because of the AC lines. The cheap
R134a charge kit I had, has a plastic quick connect
fitting and I was never able to get it to seal
completely. I got it down to a slow gurgling and
dripping of oil at it's best. I lost R134a each time I
tried to get it connected and in the end I lost more
than I added. I have friend that has a gauge set and
I will try again with a few changes. I will put the
car up on ramps or jack stands to improve access and I
will start with a cool engine.
Good Luck
Jim
93 S4 (cool AC)
96 A6q (not cool AC)
