AC out defrost vent only on HIGH..

 Listers, car is a 87 5ktq...problem is with the AC
set on Auto, & set to High air will blow out the
center vent as it's supposed to,
 but then will blow out the defrost vent..but set to
Low it blows out the way it's supposed to..out the
center vent. I
replaced the AC programer & bout ready to change the
CC head.
 So anyone want top stop me & tell me otherwise??
