new VW 2.5L NAC

I recently had some seat time in a last gen Civic (the first with the front
struts and not the
really swoopy one that's sold now).

The one thing I did notice was how absolutely smooth the drivetrain was- the
shifts were
very smooth (slushbox) and the engine revved very smoothly. Amazingly smooth
for
a 4-cylinder.

Ride-wise, it was rather floaty (28k miles on the clock and about 4 years
old), but not all
that bad. The seats were comfortable enough for a 5 hr. drive.

Now the interior was nothing to write home about- felt really cheap, but the
underpinnings were
quite nice (Civic LX sedan, not even an EX).

Recent VWs are junk- beautiful interiors but unreliable and the dealer
network is one of the worst.
