Never having had that problem (knock on wood), I would think
cleaning with soap and water might work.  If you have access 
to a wet-and-dry vacuum [1], I'd try a solution of mild soap and 
water.  Soak the area and vacuum. Repeat 2 or 3 times, then 
repeat with clear water 2 or 3 times.  And that 2 or 3 times may
end up being 5 or 10 times.

And please don't dump the vacuumed stuff down the drain.

[1] Are the coin operated vaccums at the coin operated
car wash places the wet-and-dry type?
