The only way to be certain that you've cleaned it all out is to remove the 
carpet from the car. You'll be surprised how much can get under/through it. 
Audi tended to use a thick underfelt back in the 80s and it soaks up any 
liquid like blotting paper.

To deal with this sort of situation I remove the carpet, hose it down 
thoroughly, scrub it with a hand brush then hose it again. It might take a 
few days to dry but during that time you can deal with the underfelt.
