Unusual crack? 4000Q

Does anyone have experience with a head cracked at the base of a cam
pedestal such as pictured below?  This is from a JT engine in a '87 4000
Quattro.  I am considering keeping it in service but would like to hear from
someone who has done this before.

By the way, I found a junkyard replacement head, but this second head has an
identical crack!
