I had heard about the wreck previously, but when I looked at the salvage
pictures I immediately wanted to know how the ship was cut into such neat
slices, right through the engines, bulkheads, etc. Apparently there is a
system involving diamond-encrusted wire for such tasks, also used on the
Kursk for instance. Very interesting.

Yeah,  there is a picture of the cable they use about halfway down. I believe  this happened in late 2002/early 2003, and just after Volvo had  introduced the XC90 in the US. It apparently messed up their supply of  cars for quite a while. Dealers were charging ridiculous prices until  they got more cars.
