Removing front dash speaker grills

It can be done, with a long screwdriver.  You do have to remove the 
underdash panel (driver's side), and I think, remove the glove box, to 
get to the screws.  Upside down with a flashlight...

I don't think the vent plumbing is in the way, just a pain.

If the plan is to replace the speakers, the best way is to reuse the 
frame from the old ones, cutting out the speaker parts and installing 
the replacements in their place.  Otherwise you have no good way to 
install them.  You can get a 3-1/2" speaker in there, maybe 4" if it has 
minimal flange area.

It used to be possible to get "fake" grills, solid plastic with the 
grill "look", that screwed in in placed of the speaker & real grill.  I 
got a pair but never bothered to use them.
