[A4] Repair or walk away - advice for an Oil Sludge victim?

As opposed to stopping immediately to see what the cause of the oil  
light was, or immediately taking it to a mechanic, you just kept  
driving it?   My oil light came on once;  I pulled over - 
immediately-, and it was a damn good thing I did.  One of the oil  
cooler pipe fittings had somehow worked itself loose and the car was  
hemorrhaging oil.  Looking down the road there was a stream of oil...

Anyway....if:

(value of car with problem fixed) - (cost of repairs) < (value of car  
current condition), walk away (sell.)

Part it out if you have the skill, time, patience, some storage  
space, etc. If not, sell it to someone who does have most of that.
