Mechanic recommendations are never a waste of bandwidth- we need  
listers to share experiences more often, in fact!  By all means.

I think the closest thing you'll find is probably some place like The  
Benz Den.  Also, you can try Four Brothers Automotive...one of the  
brothers is very active in the Audiworld circles, and has a Cabriolet  
he did a manual swap on.  In conversation he seemed rather familiar  
with the older cars.  There might be a shop someone can name in  
Somerville, which would be even closer.

Wherever you end up, let us know your experience. I find myself  
getting asked at least once or twice a month to steer a club member  
or similar in this regard, and I don't have nearly enough shops in my  
mental database.
