You shouldn't have to crank the engine - jumping the fuel pump relay
contacts to run the pump ought to be enough to pressurize the lines.
Lifting the air plate will cause the injectors to spray, you can examine
the patterns and flow level. Then you can drop the plate and turn off
the pump to observe potential leakage.
