Dennis,

I always secure my gaskets to oil pans with "Sure Tack" (-?) or some
such spray adhesive. It comes in a spray bottle and is red in colour.
However I do it not because I anticipate a leak in the future but rather
because I like the multitude of gasket holes to stay aligned with their
respective holes in the pan and in the engine block.

Keep in mind that this will make subsequent scraping of the residual
gasket off the flange somewhat challenging. I always adhere the new
gasket only to the oil pan (the oil pump in the front, the main seal
carrier in the back) cuz I don't what to deal with scraping the engine
block afterwards.
