Some anti-sieze compounds have copper in them.  They make for OK 
connections.  Not great in the case where a lot of current has to flow 
(like for a starter motor), but not bad.

Some don't have copper in them - depends on what you used.

Nothing beats clean metal against clean metal for carrying current.

I'd start looking around with a volt/ohm meter and jumpering with a big 
jumper cable to figure this out.

And now back to my timing belt project :-)
