Try calling 248-373-2300 in the Detroit area. This is
a major VW parts emporium called "parts place". The
firm is run by Jack Finn, but good luck reaching him.

At one time he had a few NEW 5 cyl. TDI long blocks
with the ECUs...this will be very expensive, to be
sure, but if you want to do this right, it might be
worth a look. If he has sold all the 5 cyl. TDIs he
had, he _should_ have an assortment of 4 cylinder NA,
Turbo and TDI engines.

IIRC, in Europe, Audi did make 5Ks (100s, to be
precise) with 4 cylinder gas motors. I would estimate
that these made 80~100 BHP given the engine technology
of the time. IIRC, the MC-1 engine so beloved on this
list is about 160 HP.

I am going to guess that the 5 cyl. engine would do
around 120~130 HP, based on my 1998 VW Jetta TDI
having 90 HP in US trim (Euro version did 100 HP, they
assumed better fuel quality there, and let the ECU
work the engine harder with a better turbo than we
got).

PLEASE contact me off list. I am very interested in
your project...if I had the time and free cash for a
project like this, I have an '87 5kCSQ and '93 FWD 100
that would be willing candidates for a swap like this.
