While looking into new (and VERY trendy) technologies can be good, Hybrids
have so far failed to live our to their hype, and, in the opinion of a lot
of auto biz experts, are merely a transitional technology. If VAG falls
into the hybrid trap, it's too bad. TDI technology stands head and
shoulders above straight hybrid technology without being trendy. If the US
can get the clean fuel thing dealt with, we'd be far better running TDIs
than the ever-so-trendy hybrids. TDIs get an honest 45-50 MPG average,
especially if driven at highway speeds, while only the most fanatic and
light footed of Prius drivers even come close to that figure. John
