That's even assuming the hybrids last ten years. They aren't exactly the 
most durable, and the fact that they have undersized engines for their 
mass means that when the motor isn't working, that gas engine has to be 
pushed to the limits to get reasonable performance. Tough on the engine, 
that.

Know a local owner who bought an Insight when they were new. He loved 
showing off it's mileage and performance in town.

Last year the engine fell to pieces. Cracked head, burned valves, 
faltering fuel pump, cracked cam gear; the engine had to be pushed to 
the limit whenever he didn't have a battery charge to use the motor.

Awful.
