hiccup@ 3000 RPM under load

I don't know how you define "hiccup", but I once had a
1986 5000 Turbo that would cut out under load in the
same RPM range you speak of.

That problem was caused by a torn flap in the waste
gate.  It could also be in the vacuum system ahead of
that as well.

It is easily checked with a vacuum gun (mity-vac) and
gauge.  Connect it to the top most port (small
diameter braided hose on the gray "cap" of the
wastegate.)  Pull for vaccuum.  If it won't pull
vaccuum, you found your problem.

In the 10 valve ECU on the MC engine, there is a
safety that kicks in if the flap is torn.  The vaccuum
line regulates the amount of boost.  If boost is
excessive the fuel supply is momentarily interrupted
as a safety feature.
