On my '87 5KCSTQ one of the weak links in the power lock mechanism is inside
the door panel. All of the actuators and associated switches work fine, but
the lock rods are strung together with a piece of hard plastic that loves to
snap when it gets old -- it happened on both rear doors of my car. It's a
quirky looking piece of plastic that seems Born to Break. You don't need to
do anything drastic to fix it, though -- remove the door panel and
safety-wire it back together (I used very, very fine gauge wire, wound about
40 turns) with a few drops of adhesive. Put the door panel back together
and it will never bother you again.

I could have fabricated a link between the lock rods using hardware, too.
But I had the glue and the safety wire and that worked just fine.
