I love those cars, I really do. They were just an incredible experience to
drive, especially considering their relatively modest horsepower, the
tenacious but forgiving handling was just so sweet. My first "Audi
Experience" was a 1983 5000 Turbo and it was a fantastic car. I've still
never driven anything that has precisely the same feedback through the
steering wheel and the feeling of connection to the chassis through the
driver's seat. If you drove that car after climbing out of an early-80's
American car, it was a real revelation. The clutch stopped working on that
car but we managed to drive it almost 2,000 miles after it did using the
starter motor and 1st gear. Try THAT with a 2006 A6! I wish we had held on
to it instead of selling it; I'd love to have that car to restore now.
