CIS Problem?

the best way to test fuel supply problems on the k-jet
system is to '
make ' a fuel pump switch.
mine has 2 * 8 foot bits of wire connected to a
household light switch
in a box. the other end has 2 spade connectors that
plug into the pump
supply connectors in the fuse box (with the fuel pump
relay removed).
that way you can turn the ignition on and fire the
pump without cranking
the engine.
I don't know where your relay is, but on the golf 2
it's under the dash
in the driver's footwell, hence the 8 feet of cable so
i can play with
the injector bits in the engine bay and fire the pump
at without moving.

also with this tool, you reduce the chance of an
explosion or fire due
to the combination of fuel, air and sparks.
if you have sludge in the tank / on the old pump, then
you should maybe
try replacing the filter canister.
or at least crack the fuel lines to the filter with
the pump running and
see if you get more out of one side than the other.
the filters are quite fine and clog easily.

dumb question, but i remeber bosch reduced the number
of different pumps
that they sold at one point.
this meant that you would sometimes have to re-do the
connections to the
pump and maybe get it running backwards.
you have the pump running the right way do you?

the injectors should have some residual pressure, but
only really start
to heave fuel out when you lift the plate up.
try taking the rubber hose of the top of the airflow
sensor box and
lift the plate up with the pump running.

the supply and return lines are some times colour
coded (black = suply
and blue = return)
also, there is a little arrow/triangle cast into the
metering head where
the supply and return lines connect telling you what
is what.

if you crack the supply line a bit, then fire the
pump, then you should
have fuel spraying everywhere.

if you can find (or have got) the cold start injector,
that's electric,
so gets fuel all of the time even with the flap down.
the injector is
controlled by the thermo-time switch in the water
jacket ( probably in
the back of the head). so cracking the fuel line to
this injector will
produce fuel at system pressure with the pump running.
