No offense, but I've seen one idiot that did this.  The oil comes off
with rain/snow and runs down the sides of the car, then leaves a
permanent black stain on the paint.  
There are plenty of black paints out there, 3M makes a nice flat black
used on plastic trim that should bring the mirror housings back to new.
