Just a quick update:
The rebuilt master cylinder is in, and it works fine. Installation was
straightforward.
I was a little surprised -- even before pressure bleeding the brakes, which
I'll do this evening, not much air got into the lines. I clamped off the
line from the brake reservoir to the clutch very close to the nipple, then
siphoned most of the fluid out of the reservoir before removing it. I
thoroughly cleaned the reservoir and screen. Then I just unbolted
everything, installed the new cylinder and attached the reservoir -- leaving
the brake lines loose. Then I filled the reservoir and refitted the clutch
line, and waited for some fluid to dribble out of first the rear fitting,
then the front fitting as I tightened them. Topped off the reservoir, and
started it right up with no warning lights or bleeps.
The brakes are just a little bit spongy, so evidently there's still some air
in there. Not much though, and a full four-wheel pressure bleed should fix
that.
Tonight I'll try my hand at disassembling the old M/C for an inspection.
With a little luck, today I'll also pick up some aluminized heat shielding
cloth and get to work fabricating a heat shield for the MC.
Not bad for $58, I'm pleased.
Cheers,
Alex Kowalski
