New diesel engines into older cars

Ok, with all this diesel talk, I'll share an idea I've had kicking around
for a bit. My '86 4kq is still in pretty good condition, around 150k miles,
no real problems anywhere. When the motor does finally get tired, are there
any currently available diesels (TDI, TD, etc) that could go into the car?
And for each possible motor, what else would need to accompany it? For the
turbo-diesel, there shouldn't need to be too much electrical vs. the TDI,
which would require a fair bit more, from what I understand. What other
issues should be considered? What about vacuum for the diff locks? Do the
newer diesels have a vacuum source? Adaptor plates? Motor mounts? Fuel
system mods? Stronger front springs? Gear ratios?

Any thoughts or things I'm overlooking, I'm all ears...
