the current generation merc / dodge sprinters,
available over here. were
a joint development between Merc and VAG
the sprinter is thus availiable in europe as a VW LT,
but with vw
engines instead.
I did the 1997 Vauxhall Rally of Wales (1st round of
the British rally
championship)in the back of a rented(!) and asthmatic
merc sprinter
non-turbo D (Course Clearance Van) along with a stack
of signs and
several hundred wooden stakes. Who said motor sport
was not safe?

the works VW and Seat works teams had hightop LWB VW
LT TDI service
barges, that used to fly past us at every available
opportunity.
VW were a little bit ahead with TDIs at the time as
far as I'm concerned.
