This is a common behavior when an OXS is getting a bit long of
tooth. Maybe?

I have a miltimeter with me, but no manual.
anyone know what the resistance values should be for the position
switch should be?
i guess that "if i'm right" it's going to have a spot that is
open circuit (i.e. crap on the resistor), but having the OE spec might be
useful.

Your prolly on to something with the Throttle Position switch, dig out
your multimeter and ohm it out and see what you get.
