Maybe. If the *idle* switch is bad/closed the ECU won't allow revs over
about 1400. btdt, unplugged the switch connector, drove home fine,
bought new switch assembly...

The idle switch tells the ECU to run the engine at idle with the ISV etc.
The WOT switch, the one you zip tied, takes the system out of closed
loop and richens the mixture for hard acceleration. It seems, in your
case perhaps, that it might also override the idle switch.
