Test the switch for good continuity and a good open when appropriate.

If it's an intermittent problem this may not give clear results, you can 
always just try multiple actuations, or even trying to spray some good 
contact cleaner into the switch body.

I would choose unplugged.  Your idle will probably be a little high 
and/or erratic, and you won't get enrichment when you mat the pedal, but 
otherwise the engine will run fine.

Zip tying the WOT switch closed could be hard on your catalyst.
