I think the line of commentary was reflecting the
*cost* of keeping the car, not neccessarily the other
sacrifices of ownership. :-)

Even using an independent shop, keeping the '87 4000
running is *far* less $$$$ than simply keeping the
2001 S4's CEL off ....  And frankly, IMHO, the 4000 is
a bit less sensitive to marginal components.
