But Doyt said the front apparently was dragging too.  He also said the
brake fluid was just a year old.

My guess would be the famous master cylinder misbehavior when it gets hot.
Doyt, try driving the car a few miles and checking that you're getting a
hot wheel, and then try pouring cold water onto the master cylinder.  If
the brakes quit grabbing for a while, your problem is in the master cylinder.
