1988 90Q dipstick, hunt & peck idle.

I also remember that the I-5 motors ran fine without a seated dipstick,
or even without a oil filler secured.
So I doubt that's your problem anyway.
I'd consider engine idle controller, O2 sensor, ....hmmm, well, I'd
consider those two.
