1988 90Q dipstick, hunt & peck idle.

Thanks to all for the responses.   
I had already checked the usual suspects, ISV etc., and since it only
happens once in a while I was thinking false air getting in somewhere. 
If I pull the dipstick in and out while it's running, I can kind of get
it to mimic the hunt and peck.

FWIW-removing the oil filler cap will kill the engine instantly.

I also have a couple of new temp senders on order, gauge is dead, and
replacing the temp gauge once solved a similar problem on my ole (RIP)
