A6's MMI dead

Ahh, family communications- apparently the MMI display in the new A6
had been dead for "two weeks". I thought it might simply be turned
off via the button above the glovebox release, but nope- it's dead.
Pushing almost any button (ie, SETUP on the CC head, any of the
buttons like CAR/SETUP/etc around the knob, etc has no effect save
blinking the light associated with said button. One light in the
lower left corner is lit continuously, if I remember correctly.
Not terribly impressive for a car with under a thousand miles. Is
this common? Anything I can do to give the MMI system a kick in the
pants? Will VAG-COM tell me anything if I can track down someone
with the CAN-compatible version/hardware?
I tried looking to see if the display was on but the backlight burned
out/broken, but it looks like the LCD isn't displaying anything.
Thanks!
Brett
