Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Guys,
There are two different types of monitoring, direct and indirect (direct
is for dealer add-on's) indirect is a computation thru the car's ABS
(Correct Brett), it calculates the rotational difference and light up
the light of the wheel that falls out of "spec" as a low pressure wheel
spins at a different rate than a properly inflated one.
The direct monitoring type, you would see a pressure transmitter around
the valve stem on the car now, if it's not there then you have indirect
monitoring. If you do have direct monitoring, you should be able to
"disable" it via VAG-COM should you choose to install different wheels.

I thought it was ABS (wheel-speed) based? The folks have one, and I
saw no mention of transmitters in the manual.
