Engine block heater

[Fred Munro]

NAPA sells an in-block heater for these cars. I just bought one for my '97
S6 and it lists the 1999 A4 V6 as one of the applications. It's actually a
very nice unit; solid brass, very heavy construction, and made in Canada -
go figure! Stephen is correct - Audi does not sell the in-block heaters.

AFAIK, block heaters were not available for the B5 & B6 Audis. My 98.5
didn't have any engine heater, but then it came from the Ottawa area
where winter temperatures aren't too severe. My 2002 has the 'stick on
oil pan' heater, as noted in Fred's reply below. It came in really
useful on a ski trip in Manitoba, where the car sat in -40C temperatures
overnight.  In any case, if there is an engine heater, there should be
an electric plug & wire somewhere in the engine compartment, usually
situated just in front of the radiator.
