No voltage at Coil on 5KTQ

Had a no start condition today on one of my Audi 5KTQ.

Traced the lack of spark to no voltage at BL/R wire on coil.  My Bentley wire diagram shows that this comes from the ignition switch. 
To get home, I ran a hot lead from the 12volt charging lug to the second spade connector on the right side of the coil.  Ran fine. 

I've several bad ignition switches over the years, but never a failure of this main lead to the coil.  
Any other "BTDT" experiences you can share, before I R & R the ignition switch?
