radio code

A friend who bought a TT a coupe months ago needs the code for his
radio and the dealers are wanting him to come in and pay 75 bux for
it. Even the one he bought it from , McDonald in Denver wanted him to
bring the car there to do this.

Is there any other way he can get the code? I was under the
impression he could call a dealer with the VIN. He's got an appt at
the local dealer for tomorrow noon. They're going to hit him for
about 80 bux to do it.

Thanks,
Ed

Good morning, Ed, and the list.
I've taken the initiative and called a nearby VW dealer. They need the VIN and the SN of the radio. Radio tools are readily available over the 'net, especially on e-bay, so anyone can pull their own radio. Dealers, as independent franchisees, are free to charge for R&R the radio, for the time to log on to the VAG system, or anything else they can dream up. If they all do it, we're screwed. Fortunately, some will give you your code for free if you simply supply them with the required information. You need to find one that will. Write the sucker down and store it in a safe place!
