Help Me Preserve My Repurtation

Having disassembled a few cars with the system and worked on lots I can  
see no connection to the steering column at all.
the ends of the cable do attach to the retractor and inside is about 8" of  
cable that will rewind the belt some if the transmission moves far enough  
back.
