5ktq metric fuel line fittings

I am in Massachusetts. I am replacing the lines myself, which is not
difficult and usually less than $20 if you can get the parts.
I have an idea now, which is to keep the front end of the lines that
connect near the transmission and splice them to new 5/16 line with
compression fittings. The back end of the lines only need nipple fittings,
which I can easily get for standard tubing. The big question is whether
5/16 compression fittings will hold on the 8mm tubes.
