Very common with age. One rubber thing attaches the metal plate to the
pedal, the other attaches it to the cable. Strangely, the cgt of the
same era uses just one, in a simpler configuration.

Zip ties. Or "anything." Get under there, you'll see, hopefully, how
the metal bit conveys motion from the pedal to the cable, and as long as
your temporary fix allows the full range of motion, you'll be good to go
until you get new rubber doohickeys.

In the past, I've usually had friends just get them from the dealer,
which is easy around here due to a decent dealer parts department. They
may seem expensive, but at ten bucks or so every 15-20 years it's not so
bad.
