the "0" on the flywheel

is not present in my 89 200TQA.
whilst setting the timing, i spent quite a bit of
time turning the motor forwards and back trying
to locate this circle. i've seen loads of pix of
it online, and i saw it in my bentley. however,
the car itself does not have one. it has a
straight line, which huw made mention of in a
reply to ameer regarding timing marks.
and i quote:
> At TDC, the...stamped "0" on the flywheel...is
there, roughly
> six degrees behind the six degree advance mark.
i grabbed a hunk of emery cloth and scrubbed away
at the flywheel for a good 15 degrees in either
direction of the TDC mark. nothing, i tell you.
i had my buddy look as well, cuz i figgered that
i was lying to myself. he couldn't find it
either.
is it at all possible that the flywheel is not an
original item, and was not given the stamp at the
factory? or, is it that the timing is currently
off by 6 degrees?
i'm trying to get my head around this...if i've
timed the lump up with the TDC mark, then the car
is 6 degrees advanced...and i should have low
down oomph, and lack of power on top. right? or
is it the other way around?
thanks for any help anyone can provide!
