Cam timing in the 10V turbo motor / windage tray

Hi Ameer,
I wouldn't worry about the nut; my engine has at least 3 valve keeper
halves in it. My fervent hope is that they washed out when the oil was
changed but I never saw them. A wise man once told me to plug all possible
holes that something could fall into when working on the valves with the
cover off.
The real timing mark, TDC 0, "should be" on the flywheel, visible through a
hole in the flywheel housing, imagine that. Bentley says: "align TCD 0 on
flywheel with lug cast on clutch housing". Once you got that, "turn camshaft
until marking on sprocket(back side) is in line with the upper edge of
gasket rear drive belt cover". Once you get it, paint a mark on the front
side of the sprocket with red paint unless it's already marked. Remove old
marks if they're incorrect. That makes working on the sprocket a lot easier
in the future.
Warning: Be sure that all valves have clearance to move without hitting a
piston before tightening the cam bearing caps; otherwise, one or more might
crack when torqued down.
HTH.
Cheers!
