00 Audi A6 4.2 trip computer display

If this is the fading center "information" display ( the big 2x3 
screen) it is a well known, long discussed, unrepairable display. You 
need to find a new or rebuilt instrument cluster.  You might check is 
it fading lines or consistent fading intensity? The former is the 
well-known failure mechanism as far as I know.  not unique to 4.2. All 
2000+ audis.
