Hi,

In case anyone is interested there is a 1986 5000S on CraigsList, Sacramento
version, that smells like a rotten fish. The pictures in it looked good, so
I called the guy. He became very defensive when I started asking questions
about where the car came from. The ad says that the grandparents gave it to
his kids too early. The grandparents allegedly live in Paradise about 100
miles north of Sacramento. I asked if the car is a California car; iow,
has it always been in California, "oh, yes, of course"... Car isn't
registered or smogged; "if I have to smog it, I will charge more for it".
Hmmm, California law requires the seller to smog a vehicle unless other
specific arrangements are made. I asked if this car saw Katrina; "what do
you mean?"

I got disgusted with the lying SOB, wished him good luck and hung up. He
apparently called me back 2 or 3 times but wouldn't say anything.

The guy is like the man who robbed a bank and dropped his driver's license
during the getaway. The pictures that look so good show the license plates
plainly and they begin with the numeral 4; 4 wasn't used until after 2000.
Therefore, the car has been registered in California at least once circa
2000. California car, my patoot.

I wasn't really interested anyway, and I'll bet the KBB value of that car is
less than he was asking.

If anyone is interested or you just want to have some fun, look up the ad
and call him.

Cheers!

Jim Jordan
