windshield recommendations?

I don't know about you guys - but I've had the opportunity to have 4
windshields done in the last year or so. This was on 4 different cars.

Used several different companies, only 1 didn't have some type of damage
from careless installation (knife marks mostly). I know it's a tough
job, they only have a certain amount of time to get it done, etc,
etc...So, my Sube needed new glass - they wouldn't warranty it due to
rust, which was forming due to the last installer knifing the paint
under the molding. I pointed that out and fought w/the company - the
result was that the installer took his time, applied primer and didn't
take any more paint out of the car.

Moral of the story, regardless what type of glass you get, make sure you
watch the installer during the install and make sure they apply primer
to the job - they are going to knife the paint - you just can't help it.
Then make sure you double check for chips or scrapes when they're done.

It's a shame that people just don't take pride in the quality of their
work anymore...

Vittorio -

Those were the guys that did mine as well. Excellent service. Hope the
quality of the job and the glass is as good as the service!

Didn't realize how 'sandblasted' my windshield had become. Need to stop
tailgating.

shield. Can anyone recommend a good after market brand, or ones to stay
away from? I'm going to pay out of pocket for it, which means audi is
out of the question.

I just had mine replaced this am, my original one had a crack starting
in the lower driver's side and working across at face level. I needed
one quick as I'm heading south to look at college's with my older son
tomorrow, so went to glass.net and got a price of $358 for mobile
service.
