... one caveat to add ... if you have a car which has the "diversity" setup
(radio antennae in both windshield and rear window) the diversity mode is
only used for FM reception ... which means that only one antenna is
optimized for AM operation. In the type 44s this is the rear window
antenna. If you happen to use the antenna lead from the windshield on a T44
for your new ubertuner ... even though you have the amp properly powered ...
you may well find AM reception sucks.
I've got to say that from my experience, the old factory Blaupunkts can do a
respectable job ... when the antennae are working. When I bought my first
V8 in Colorado, I used a news program on KGO radio (a San Francisco AM
station) on the old Delta to keep me awake across Utah and Nevada. That was
my all time record drive ... awake for over 24 hours, and I was able to keep
my mind alert the whole way back ... starting in Denver and hitting the
pillow in my old room at my parents' house in Sacramento ... with a stop at
the museum at the base of Pikes Peak in the morning ...
